A presentation by Yousuf Saeed on the history and evolution of popular Urdu culture in India,
Followed by a discussion on Proposal Writing: Ideation, Process and Outcome, by Annapurna Garimella and Lokesh Khodke.
Yousuf will speak about his journey through the three projects supported by IFA over the last eight years to study the lesser-acknowledged popular culture of Urdu that has kept the language alive among the masses even as its professed practitioners lament its demise. These projects have variously contributed to opening up a vast domain of research that cuts across music, cinema, literature, television, and performing arts. Together, they reflect IFA’s commitment to supporting research in Indian languages to contribute to discourse building in various language and cultural contexts.
