Lokame Tharavadu | Panel Discussion – 1

Our century has been characterised by a destabilised understanding of home. With the increased migration, displacement and escalating refugee crisis of the last few decades the concept of home and the emotional space it provides has been an important point of reference in creative works. The varied definitions of the home have played an integral part in the formation of individual and collective histories. Apart from providing a sense of belonging and place, home is also the site of conflict, oppression and confinement fostering an alienating and hostile environment. This panel discussion aims to excavate the extensive maze of ideas that define, shape and situate home. Through this discussion, we interrogate the diverse realities involved, the complex world of subjectivities, and the multiplicity of stories and images that are created.

The discussion will re-imagine the ideas of belonging, home and identity in the context of the contemporary South Asian social and political landscape.
