Prakash is an artisan of many instruments and specializes in the crafting of djembes. He has been playing and teaching djembe, dun dun and other percussions, and even worked at Svaram in Auroville. Prakash even built (and rebuilt) many of our drums at African Pavilion. He will walk us through hand exercises, different drumming techniques, how to care for your drum, and he'll hand us the keys to his veteran drummer knowledge. The Shamba Ya Moto squad will definitely be joining his workshops to deepen our connection to our natural rhythms. Should we allow cars? The reign of cars has conditioned 20th century urbanism and continues to tyrannize it.” Roger Anger, Sept 1965 Auroville has an unconventional plan which also defines its mobility and general urban characteristic conceived as a predominantly pedestrian town. But we are not there yet... In this session we explore how the city plan was designed to lend itself to such a mobility pattern via its three main circles of Centre, Zones & Greenbelt with a cross connection between all three and a collaboration with the bio region. What are the different steps to be taken to make all this happen & the present challenges? Torkil Dantzer: is a conscious entrepreneur and woodwork artist, concerned about the development and circulation in Auroville’s Industrial Zone. Prakash is an artisan of many instruments and specializes in the crafting of djembes. He has been playing and teaching djembe, dun dun and other percussions, and even worked at Svaram in Auroville. Prakash even built (and rebuilt) many of our drums at African Pavilion. He will walk us through hand exercises, different drumming techniques, how to care for your drum, and he'll hand us the keys to his veteran drummer knowledge.
