Kino is a film making movement that advocates the production of short-films on little to no budget, using small crews, and non-competitive collaboration. There are Kino Groups around the world. Kino Auroville is the only one in India. We invite anyone who has made a film in the last month, between 30 seconds and 6 minutes to come and screen it. We meet every first Saturday of the month at 10 a.m. at the MMC/CP (MultiMedia Center / Cinema Paradiso) at the Town Hall. While the Galaxy idea is notional, the plan that became known as the “Galaxy plan” and manifested as a three dimensional model, was aimed at the physical realization of a town where both the material and spiritual aspects could work together.
How to move from the vision to a physical grounding and make them work together? How will the physical implementation help the notional elements to be realized? What are the progressive LANDING PADS and landing steps needed for the Galaxy to manifest?
B V Doshi has been a member of Auroville’s Governing Board and the Chairman of Auroville’s Town Development Council. He remains a leading figure in Indian architecture who worked under Le Corbusier and Louis Kahn and later partnered with Joseph Stein. His noteworthy buildings include IIM, Bangalore, CEPT University, the Amdavad Gufa designed for the artist Hussain and the Aranya Low cost housing project. He is also the recipient of multiple awards such as the Agha Khan Award for architecture, the international Pritzker Architecture prize of 2018 and national honours like the Padma Bhusan.
Toine van Megen Part of Auroville since its pioneering days, he was a founder member of the Auroville Renewable Energy Group and has held senior management positions in the global renewable energy sector. A co-founder of Auroville Consulting, he continues to contribute towards Auroville’s energy infrastructure, planning and sustainable development.
Sreevatsa Ramesh is an architect and co-founder of Tapasya Design Studio and at present serves in L’avenir d’Auroville, Auroville’s Town Development Council.
Omar Rabie is a graduate of MIT and the Architectural Association, London and founder of Unitary. His professional experience includes Takenaka Corp, Osaka, Kengo Kuma & Associates, Tokyo and is an Union of International Architects (UIA) awarded designer. Apart from his practice & research in bio climatic design he lectures at Auroville Earth Institute and is a visiting faculty with IIT Kharagpur.
Andrea Cammarata Has a Masters in Architecture from the Milan Polytechnic, Italy and a Ph.D. in Urban Planning. He is an Adjunct Professor at the Milan Polytechnic and has taught widely. Is also a BIM expert and urban planner and was one of the Head Professors leading the international research titled “Sanctuaire Notre- Dame de Lourdes (FR) BIM mode. In 2016 he was deputed to take up Auroville’s International Zone’s Detailed Development Plan and has since also made Auroville his home.
