Public art: the feel-good hit that makes us linger – and spend money


screen-shot-2017-06-28-at-11-52-33-amNow that Vivid Sydney, the yearly festival of lights, music and ideas, has drawn to a spectacular close, I am waiting with anticipation on a much more mundane spectacle – the crunching of some numbers. This is exciting as, at around this time last year, Destination NSW confirmed that 700,000 more people came to Vivid in one year than came to the Sydney Olympics. Not bad for an event that costs the state 100 times less.
